Our second choice and "TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award" winner is the leading online clip art subscription service, Clipart.com. Because Clipart.com is an online subscription, this service offers more clip art images and more frequent updates than a CD clip art package can. Currently, Clipart.com boasts an inventory of 6,000,000 images and works with Vista.
Clipart.com offers a wide variety of clip art—from vector illustrations, photos, and web graphics to line drawings, frames, sound clips and fonts. But Clipart.com doesn't offer technical symbols, animated graphics, or flash animation images.
ClipArt.com offers good clip art quality. One area in need of improvement, however, is vector image quality. This is practically unnoticeable unless you enlarge Clipart.com vector images to poster size—then the edges appear slightly jagged.
Also, downloading clip art choices was awkward. To download, we had to pick a file format, add the image to the download cart, click the open cart button, then select the images we wanted to download again. We found ClipArt.com's download steps redundant and unintuitive.
ClipArt.com customer service is excellent. We received a prompt, helpful response from the Clipart.com support team.
We recommend ClipArt.com for PC and MAC users alike. Even though the download steps and help files take some getting used to, this service offers the largest variety of images of all clip art we reviewed. The detailed search tools and good image quality are another plus. We felt the service was worth the year subscription price of $159.95.
